Tarot Series~Minor Acrana: Ace of Pentacles

ce0a44f08ac300a42e4dbd5800c72fac

When pulled upright this card is about new beginnings, just like all ace cards. Due to this card being a pentacles card it could be a new career, a new venture, a start to a health journey. Regardless of the new beginning, pulling this card upright means the outcome of it will bring your abundance and opportunity. This card also represents that a “seed” (an idea, a goal, a thought, etc) has been planted when it comes to the material world. It likely has to do with your feeling of security and stability. You need to nurture it and help it grow. You need to give it your time, your energy, sometimes you need to invest in it financially. Helping this seed manifest will bring you prosperity. Along with all this you need to make sure you are prepared psychologically for the opportunities coming your way. To ensure that you can reap all the benefits from this card you need to have calmness in your life, you need stability.

When pulled in reverse this card says the possible opportunity that is being presented to you can be a bad investment, it could take up more resources than you currently think it will, or it could be saying you are missing your chance for this opportunity. This card can also be a sign that you are going to be going through some hard financial times. Having said that this card is suggesting not to make an big financial decisions and to carefully think about all your options before deciding upon any sort of deal. Now could also be a good time to get advice from others as to avoid making rushed decisions. Now isn’t a good time to start a new job or business especially if you’re considering it for financial gain. It might be an illusion that could hurt you in the end.

Here is a tarot spread to help you start your new beginning in your career. First I would take the ace of pentacles out of the deck and meditate on it thinking about the opportunity you have, or the goal you want to reach. Then shuffle and pull the cards using your preferred method.

Tarot Series~Minor Arcana: Ten of Swords

S10

When pulled upright is about a major disaster. Something big that wasn’t anticipated has made it’s way into your life. There is a good chance that this disaster has left you feeling betrayed as it is often about someone stabbing you in the back, figuratively of course. This reminds that that no matter how much we wish we did we do not control everything. This situation was unavoidable. Right now you probably have a self pitying attitude. Remember that when something comes to an end that something new will be coming too. Let go of that past and embrace the change as this is the direction your life was meant to go in.

When pulled in reverse this card is also about defeat. This tragedy was unavoidable and it has been building up for a long time over numerous past events. When reversed though there comes the understanding that you’ve hit rock bottom and there is nothing left that you can give anymore. Despite how terrible that sounds it means that nothing can get worse than this and things will only get better from here on out. But it is key to note that if you want things to start getting better you have to be the one to initiate this change. This is a chance to correct whatever it was that hurt you.

Here is a tarot spread for when you feel like you’re going through a mess. First I would take out the ten of swords and meditate on it thinking about the bad situation you’re going through. Then shuffle and pull the cards using your preferred method.

Tarot Series~Minor Arcana: Six of Swords

db1a6adf39a435a8e6c690205c6399d3

When pulled upright this card is about having to make a regrettable transition in your life. This transition is likely happening due to a decision you made in the past which is now forcing you to leave something behind as you move forward. Despite the fact that this is bringing a great deal of sadness you need to remember that given the circumstances this is the best possible outcome. This card reminds you that life is full of times where you have to let go of things you’ve become accustomed to. This isn’t going to be easy but remember that this sadness is only temporary. Look forward to your future and gain strength from its possibilities. Sometimes you can’t fix what’s broken. The only thing you can do it leave the issue and start new. You may find yourself thinking that this seems cowardly but sometimes it’s the only thing that can be done when you’ve tried to make it work using every other method. Now you need to start planning your path to a happier future. Due to it being a swords card it is telling you to make these plans with logic, clarity, and objectively to know where you’ve been, where you are now, and where you want to go.

When pulled in reverse this card is about how you’ve been actively trying to make this transition and move on however you may find that making this transition is quite challenging. You may find yourself reliving your past due to unresolved issues, or maybe because you are second guessing your decisions. Another meaning of this card could be that you are actually resisting these transitions. You may feel forced into doing things that you aren’t ready for or that you don’t want to do at all. Take a second to think about the possible benefits of these transitions and not just their negatives.

Here is a tarot spread to help you embrace the transitions that are happening in your life. First I would take the six of swords of the deck and meditate on it while thinking about the transitions that are starting to take form in your life. Then shuffle and pull using your preferred method.

Tarot Series~Minor Arcana: Ace of Swords

49a858d874f39115049d01c531570610

When pulled upright this card is about breakthroughs, just like all ace cards are. However do to this card being a sword it says that this breakthrough has more to with in intellect. So maybe you have been struggling to find the solution to a problem, this could be a breakthrough for that. It could also be a breakthrough in a situation where you were trying to determine the truth of something. It also talks about seeing the world from a new point of view and realizing you have endless opportunities. Now is a really great time to start working towards your goals. Since your conscious is clear and you are at a point of swift thinking now is a good time to seek justice and truth. It is important to remember that swords can be double-edged. So this clarity you are experiencing can be used for good or bad deeds. It is all dependent on you. It also reminds you that too much power can corrupt a person so you need to stick with your principles.

When pulled in reverse can be saying that instead of having a mental breakthrough you could actually be very confused, unsure, and feel very chaotic. It is good to remember, that due to this, it is not a good time to be making any decisions, since those choices won’t be backed with a clear mind. Now is a better time to prepare yourself for what is to come and take baby steps towards it. Now is the time to take yourself through each and every stage of what you want to accomplish and really create some sort of plan, rather than acting spontaneously. It would also be good to ask for advice because everything may not be as it seems.

Here is a tarot spread that may help you achieve your mental breakthrough. First I would take the ace of swords out of the deck and mediate on it while really trying to clear your mind of any chaos and confusion. Then shuffle the cards and pull using your preferred method.

Is Easter really a Christian Holiday?

As many of you know Easter is right around the corner. And as with most Christian holiday’s and traditions, Easter doesn’t stem from Christian beliefs originally. We can bring it all back to Paganism. So, I thought it would be fun if we talked about the actual origins of Easter.

Firstly we should address the fact that most scholars, even biblical ones, agree that Easter was founded by pagan traditions and festivals. The word Easter is thought to be a derivative of the word Eastra, the springtime goddess. Pagans would make sacrifices to this goddess during the time Christians today celebrate Passover. Despite the fact that most scholars agree it is based on a pagan festival, it is not necessarily agreed which festival.

Due to the fact that Easter is about the death and rebirth of Jesus Christ, some believe that it is taken from the symbolism of the death and return of the sun. Then others believe that Easter is taken from the pagan story of *Tammuz and Ishtar (story will be inserted below)

A very common thought process is Easter got its traditions from the sabbat Ostara, the spring equinox. A very important aspect of Ostara is the idea of renewal which is essentially what the Christian’s Easter is all about.

Now, let’s talk about the traditions celebrated at Easter and where they come from. So firstly lets talk about the rabbit. The rabbit is a very big symbol in Easter. We have the Easter bunny as well as chocolate bunnies that people eat. Bunny’s are also a popular gift to give as pets during this time (which is a whole other issue of it’s own). But where does the symbolism of the bunny really come from? Rabbits are actually associated with the spring time goddess Eostre which would be a deity that many Pagans worship during this time of year. They’re also symbols of fertility which is a big part of what Ostara is about. Another symbol associated with Easter is the egg. The reason for this is similar to that of the bunny. The egg represents spring due to the fact that it is a symbol of fertility and renewal. There is also a legend that says the Goddess Ostara healed a wounded bird by changing it into a hare. However the hare was still part bird and showed it’s gratitude to the goddess by laying eggs for her as gifts.

*When Tammuz dies, Ishtar is grief–stricken and follows him to the underworld. In the underworld, she enters through seven gates, and her worldly attire is removed. “Naked and bowed low” she is judged, killed, and then hung on display. In her absence, the earth loses its fertility, crops cease to grow and animals stop reproducing. Unless something is done, all life on earth will end.

After Ishtar has been missing for three days her assistant goes to other gods for help. Finally one of them Enki, creates two creatures who carry the plant of life and water of life down to the Underworld, sprinkling them on Ishtar and Tammuz, resurrecting them, and giving them the power to return to the earth as the light of the sun for six months. After the six months are up, Tammuz returns to the underworld of the dead, remaining there for another six months, and Ishtar pursues him, prompting the water god to rescue them both. Thus were the cycles of winter death and spring life.
